Group Coaching on Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) for leaders at UCSF

Program designed to help managers become more inclusive and impactful leaders at UCSF by creating time and space to explore the personal and group dynamics of racial identity and its impact on leadership effectiveness.

Program Content

Seven biweekly facilitated conversations.

Sessions 1-6: six 90-minute coaching sessions by a certified coach with experience in DEI
Prioritizes discussion of participants’ lived experiences.

Regular coaching sessions focus on exploring and building deeper self-awareness of how identity impacts leadership experience and effectiveness. Coaches will address themes that are relevant and top of mind for the participants. Possible topics include:

  • Your racial and other identities, and how they relate to your leadership experience at UCSF.
  • Navigating the complex dynamics of identity in the workplace as a member of your racial group.
  • How you relate to others and how others relate to you through the lens of racial identity.
  • Integrating allyship with leadership to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Communicating with your team about race and its influence on the workplace.
  • Responding as a leader to acts of microaggression within your team, or between your team and other stakeholders.
Session 7: one 60-minute evaluation session facilitated by an external consultant

Solidify learning outcomes and evaluate the program as a whole.


It is expected that participants will make every effort to attend all seven sessions.

To maximize the benefit of DEI Leadership Group Coaching for everyone, please select and participate in the racial group that you identify with the most. However, all are welcome to choose any group.
