Microsoft Excel Advanced

This (half-day) workshop highlights the most powerful capabilities of Excel PivotTables and their use in analyzing data and presenting findings in compelling ways. Participants must be familiar with all Excel functions listed under the Beginner and Advanced Excel Workshops.

Key topics covered:

  • Preparing data for PivotTable Reports and Charts.
  • Adding formulas to PivotTables and Charts.
  • Incorporating PivotTable reports and Charts into Word documents and linking them.
  • Performing advanced analysis and comparisons through custom functions.
  • Filtering, formatting and sorting reports.
  • Writing Macros and accessing properties, methods, and events of Excel Objects.
  • Using Macros to respond to user events.

 

Microsoft Excel Intermediate

During this (half-day) workshop participants learn time saving techniques to analyze data and extract important business insights, present information in a compelling way, and collaborate with others more effectively. Participants must be familiar with all Excel functions listed under the Beginner Excel Workshop or have some experience creating workbooks, worksheets, cells, ranges, and using a variety of functions and formulas.

Key topics covered:

  • Data manipulation: Managing large lists of data. Basic and advanced formulas, 3-D ranges, sorting and filtering techniques, and database functions.
  • Data presentation: Using powerful analysis and reporting tools, such as PivotTables to extract important information for presentations.
  • Data entry and validation: Using Excel's ability to gather and validate data when applicable.
  • Collaboration: Enabling multiple users to review and edit workbooks. Protecting sheets or cells within a sheet to ensure data integrity and confidentiality. Tracking changes, reviewing changes, and accepting changes.
  • Efficiency: Using templates and styles to reuse worksheets, and to set standards and ensure consistency.

 

Microsoft Excel Beginner

This (half-day) workshop is for users who are new to Microsoft Excel, or have used it minimally. Provides the opportunity to practice the concepts and techniques that are discussed and ask questions. Users are encouraged to bring their new or existing spreadsheets that they would like to work on or ask questions about.

Key topics covered:

  • Overview of Excel fundamentals: workbooks, worksheets, cells, ranges, ribbon and tabs, settings, formulas and functions, basic macro recording for automating repetitive tasks.
  • Creating worksheets: Entering text and numbers, copying and moving cells, zooming in and out, freezing panes, and splitting windows. Formatting guidelines for readability and consistency.
  • Working with formulas and functions: Overview of functions and formulas, using absolute and relative cell references. Calculating sums, averages, and percentages. Using the built-in functions.
  • Working with lists and charts: Creating lists/tables, creating charts easily, formatting and adjusting charts.
  • Printing Options: Adding headers, footers and page numbers to a worksheet. Adding manual page breaks.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint Workshop

This (half-day) workshop provides powerful techniques to save time, manipulate and format presentations, convey information in an engaging way, and collaborate with others more effectively. Provides understanding of PowerPoint features - beginner through advanced - and enhance productivity.

Key topics covered:

  • Formulating presentation: Learn more about how to format presentations and utilize Master slides and templates.
  • Data presentation: Creating tables, charts, and diagrams from within PowerPoint, as well as importing them from other applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Multimedia and self-running presentations: Using images, sound, video, animation, and transitions to create powerful presentations that can be delivered live, or packaged as self-running presentations.
  • Collaboration: Tracking changes and allow multiple users to simultaneously edit the same presentation.
  • Efficiency: Learning numerous shortcuts and tips that can be applied to daily work.

 

Microsoft Word Workshop

This (half-day) workshop provides time-saving techniques to better manipulate and format documents, use Macros and collaborate within Word.

Key topics covered:

  • Document manipulation and formatting: Navigation and formatting tips, shortcuts, formatting styles, working with headers and footers, and using bookmarks and hyperlinks.
  • Data presentation: Creating tables, charts, and diagrams from within Word, as well as importing them from other applications such as Excel. Using pictures and clip art. Automatically generating a table of contents and indexes.
  • Collaboration: Enabling multiple users to review and edit documents. Sending documents for review. Merging changed documents. Tracking changes, reviewing changes, and accepting or rejecting changes.
  • Efficiency: Using templates and styles to repurpose documents, and to set standards and ensure consistency. Covers use of Macros to speed up workflow.
